Shield Vault

Overview

A Shield Vault is our standard GuardBlock Vault which enables you to store bitcoin for long-term peace of mind. It uses a single hardware signing device (sometimes called a hardware wallet) and has recovery pathways that only become active once a timelock has been reached.

Check out this article to see which hardware signing devices are currently supported by GuardBlock.

Features

One hardware signing device

You only need a single hardware signing device to create and use a Shield vault, removing the need to manage multiple devices and keys in order to safely store your bitcoin

Optional Spending controls

Once you have created a Shield Vault, you can optionally set up various spending controls. With these,  you can limit the amount of bitcoin that can be spent from the vault according to your preferences.

Timelocked unilateral exit path at 13 months

In case GuardBlock ever disappears or becomes compromised, the first timelock to expire enables you to exit the platform using just your hardware signing device and a copy of your Vault Descriptor, which you are prompted to save during the vault creation process. You can access the Vault Descriptor anytime via your Vault Settings in case you lose your copy.

Timelocked GuardBlock recovery path at 15 months

If you (or your inheritors) lose your hardware signing device and backups of your private key, the second timelock enables GuardBlock to help you restore your bitcoin to a new vault once the timelock expires.

Inheritance Support

As part of having bitcoin stored safely in a Shield Vault to ensure it can be recovered for your inheritors in the event they lose access to your keys, GuardBlock will also support your inheritors to safely store and use their inherited bitcoin.
